Course Outline

Course Objectives

This intensive training program is designed to deliver essential career-building skills for rewarding employment and future advancement within the private security industry. Targeting the essential performance requirements demanded by employers today, this course allows graduates to gain employment and begin earning quickly after graduating. In this course you will learn to handle both routine security/protection issues and concerns, as well as learning how to assess, handle and respond to security threats and special situations. The course includes First Aid and CPR training, and is conducted in a stimulating, enjoyable environment.

Career Options and Opportunities

The private security industry is providing a broad range of employment opportunities today as well as many diverse career-building options to meet tomorrow's demands and challenges. Employment options can include proprietary and contract positions, working in security patrols, guarding persons and property, working with security hardware and electronic technology, access control, special events security and securing a range of buildings, organizations and installations. As your skills and experience continue to develop, supervisory opportunities are also an option.

Course Requirements

Entrance requirements include a grade 12 diploma or equivalent. Some applicants may qualify for mature student status if they are over 19 years of age and have at least one full year of work experience. In addition, every applicant must submit to an enrollment interview and successfully pass an entrance abilities test administered at the time of enrollment.

Attendance and Graduation Requirements

Requirements for graduation include a credit from each of the three modules of this program. Marks are awarded on the basis of both independent and class exercises, quizzes, tests and exam. An overall average of 60% is required as a minimum passing standard, and a mark of 80% or higher will qualify for an honours diploma.
